The Cardinal By Rebecca L. Allen

The bright morning sun

Peeks through the darkness

Attempting to wake the world

Its golden rays put off a blinding light

Bringing man and animal to wake

A bird is singing to start their day

Perched high in a leafless tree

Adorned in bright red feathers

Singing a happy tune

When a loved one passes

Sometimes a visitor we see

To bring a song of comfort

For those left behind

A reminder of those we lost too soon

Who sent you I may never know

Names and faces come to mind
