Desire by Hailey Helmke

It pushes me and empowers me.

It drains me and devours me.

It kills me just to breathe life back in.

Yet, I continue to keep holding it within.

I work for it, and fight for it.

I search for it and lose sight of it.

It slips through my fingers even though it’s right there,

And for some reason it is still my only care.

It conquers all and makes the final call.

It trades and tracks but doesn’t hold back at all.

It guides the mind into the ultimate prison,

By making decisions based on what the inspired envision.

It brightens my day and takes the pain away.

It keeps me on track and then leads me astray.

Within me, it starts a never-ending fire,

And that fatally fantastic flame is named desire.
