Thriller: Yes! We can do creepy, too!
The Mirror Man by Nic Samson
"I should like it if you would stay just a little while longer. It is not too often that I have visitors." The Mirror Man spoke with charisma, a hint of sadness seasoning his woes.
Man and Cameraman had been here for longer than they’d realized, but neither of them were quite certain in the windowless room.
"You've kept us here for quite some time already. Or have you? I can't seem to recall how long we've been talking." The Man said, not taking his eyes off of him.
"Can you wrap this up already?” The Cameraman interjected, “This old house is starting to creep me out and you've overplayed the joke."
Leaving no room for caution, the Mirror Man started again, "Just a moment longer, there's something else I wanted to tell you. I've been in this mirror for many, many years. I've seen quite a few faces, tried them on if you will, but none have fit quite like yours."
A blush came over the Man, but not upon the mirror, "That's very kind of you, but surely you're flattering me."
Visibly agitated now, the Cameraman scowled as his voice rose, "What are you talking about?"
But again without hesitation the Mirror Man said, "I'd like to make you a deal. Let me take a walk. Switch me places for only a day and I shall grant you blessings aplenty."
Shaken at the idea, the Man almost faltered, but still he was drawn in and naively pressed on,
"Gee, I don't know if that's such a good idea. You haven't even told me your name, how can I trust you?"
"My name? You've gotta cut it out man, I'm gonna leave you here." Said the now frightened Cameraman.
It was as if he were not there, and truly maybe the Man could not hear.
"I lost my name when I entered the mirror, as will you, but once I leave I know I will remember it. Please, can you help me?" Pleaded the Mirror Man
"What's it like in there?" The Man asked.
"Oh, it is, well, very serene. A cozy little cove of reflection." Answered the Mirror Man.
Noticing the Man’s hand extending as if in a trance, the Cameraman exclaimed, "Get your hand away from that mirror dude, there's something wrong with it!"
"You promise you'll be right back? No more than a day?” the Man whispered.
"I promise, press your hand against mine." the Mirror Man reassured.
If there was a touch it was swiftly forgotten by the crash and banging on the floor.
"Woah! Hey get up man! You okay?" the Cameraman said, kneeling over his fallen friend.
"I'm okay, I just lost my balance is all. Guess that's what I get for trying to scare you, my bad." Said the nɒM
A nervous laugh escaped the Cameraman as he responded, "I almost started to believe you! I was this close to smashing that mirror."
"
You know, that's not such a bad idea. Let's do it!" the nɒM said.
